Dylan Leopold is a Philadelphia-based artist who works primarily in oil on canvas, creating surreal paintings that draws inspiration from a mix of song lyrics and personal experiences. Graduating from the University of the Arts in 2009 with a BFA in Painting/Drawing, she received several awards, including the Michael Leone Award and the Ted Carey Award. After graduating, her work was published in the Aesthetica Creative Works Annual, and she exhibited locally in Philadelphia galleries between 2009 and 2011. After taking a brief hiatus from art, she started painting again in 2020 as a form of therapy, using it as a means to process and express her emotions during the pandemic.

Her work delves into the complexities of mental health, exploring an emotional landscape that often feels impossible to articulate. Using a whimsical style with a dark undertone, she showcases the duality between our inner and outer worlds and the constant struggle between what is going on in our heads and what we portray to others. The figures faces are often omitted, instead using an abstract motif of feathers, petals, and smoke to evoke a sense of chaos, illustrating the often indescribable internal battles we face.
